It's hard to believe that just 5 years ago, Harper's Bazar reported that the Juicy Couture tracksuit became such a relic that it became a part of an exhibit in the London V&A Museum. Kim Kardashian's brand skims announced today that they are launching a more luxurious version of the velour tracksuit on Oct. 21st. Seems like velour and 2000s style, in general, is coming back in style.
I've already signed up for the waitlist.
I feel like this moment was very manifest--how could it not happen with all the obsession with the early 2000s again, both from those who were central to that culture and from Gen Z? The neutral take on the velour is very on-brand for Skims and also seems to be a good way to ensure people make this a staple in 2020 rather than just wearing it once for the Instagram and then never knowing what to pair it with. It also fits well in a moment where everyone is still working from home, because if we're all still in our comfy clothes, why not wear a version that still reminds us fashion exists? Anyway it's very intriguing and fun, but also fashion's obsession with nostalgia makes me wonder a lot what will be the defining trends of more recent decades once we move beyond them. i.e. what is a 2010s-inspired look? What will the 2020s be? I guess we will see how this evolves further, but for now it definitely looks like we're making a smooth transition from Nap Dress Summer to Velour Skims Tracksuit Winter.
If it's anything like the styles from old Disney or Nickelodeon shows, I might be scared lol
I am a huge fan on Juicy Couture. Loved the feel very much.
